A new DLC (downloadable content) has just been released for the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-EA Performance Upgrade for the GT trims only unlocks an additional 100 pound-feet of torque from the dual electric motors, bringing total output to 480 horsepower and 700 pound-feet. That extra grunt available from a standing start shaves a half-second off the 0-to-60 time, from 3.8 seconds to 3.3 seconds. ford wants you to know that this speed will get the GT to 60 faster than the Porsche Macan 4S Electric, which takes 3.9 seconds, is just the Macan Turbo S Electric dives below the overclocked Mach-E GT. The Ford also beats Tesla’s Model Y Performance by 0.2 seconds. The Mach-E GT beats the Model Y with a mile in the range stakes, also to boot; we are still waiting for Porsche to release estimated range figures for the higher Macan trim levels.
The quarter mile is completed in 11.8 seconds at a speed of 114 mph.
The upgrade can be added as an option to any new Mach-E GT; it can also be downloaded through the FordPass app for any 2024 Mach-E GT already on the road. It costs $995 plus tax through the app, so expect to spend upwards of a grand depending on where you live.
Anyone who would complain that Ford held back on the Mach-E’s capability in order to sell an upgrade later, well, that’s what every automaker has done with nearly every model they’ve ever sold. Must be an upgrade disaster for the next few model years, right? The difference is that with a purely mechanical upgrade, anyone who already has an electric intersection would be stuck at 600 lb-ft unless they visited a tuner. Now they can push a few buttons and catch up to the random Joneses who check the option box at the dealershipAnd anyone who isn’t happy about this might want to avert their eyes to what’s coming, as roles are increasingly driven by what will make analysts happy during the quarterly earnings call, meaning ways must be found to increase revenue opportunities post-sales, given that analysts only speak two languages, with English being their second.
