The nubia Z60 Ultra launched in December 2023 as one of the first phones to feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The following month, Samsung announced its Galaxy S24 lineup featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy chipset, which has slightly higher clock speeds.
Either an exclusivity deal between Samsung and Qualcomm had expired, or the San Diego chipmaker simply managed to produce enough units of the faster chipset that it was now available to other makers. Naturally, a reband was in order, and it’s now known as the “Leading version” instead of “for Galaxy.”
nubia was quick to capitalize on that and re-released the Z60 Ultra, but with an overclocked chipset and a number of other improvements, most notably some AI features. The phone is called nubia Z60 Ultra leading versionand it is now before us for evaluation.
The design is essentially unchanged: we’re thankful we received the silver variant of the Leading Version, as otherwise we would have had a hard time telling the new phone apart from the old one we already reviewed.
It comes with a hard plastic case for protection, a red USB-C cable, and an 80W charger.
The Leading version has the same 50MP 35mm main camera, a 64MP telephoto with 85mm equivalent, and a 50MP ultra-wide camera. It claims to have improved the optics of the main camera, as well as the overall performance of the 12MP selfie camera that sits under the display.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s CPU has a Cortex-X4 core running at 3.4GHz, while the Adreno 750 GPU runs at 1GHz instead of 900MHz.
We’ll do our best to determine how much of a difference this makes.
We also test the NeoVision AI camera features, including AI Blur, AI Removal, and AI Sky Color Change.
Once we’re done with the Nubia Z60 Ultra Leading Version review, we’ll pass judgement on whether the phone is worth the money. starting price of $599.
