Huawei has just launched the world’s first triple-folding smartphone, the Mate XT Ultimate. It folds in threeAnd yet, even with all that folding and three panels to account for, it still manages to nearly match the latest Samsung phone Galaxy Z Fold6 in thickness when folded.

The following photo shared on Reddit today says more than a thousand words.

The triple-screen Huawei Mate XT next to the Galaxy Z Fold6 really puts things into perspective

On paperthe situation is as follows: the Mate XT is 12.8mm thick, while the Fold6 is 12.1mm thick, so – on paper – Samsung is winning this war.

But – just look at the image above. 0.7mm is almost imperceptible to the human eye. And then there’s the fact that the Huawei folds in three! The screen is 10.2″, compared to the Fold6’s foldable display which is 7.6″. There’s just no comparison.

Now, here’s what’s going to happen in the comments. Samsung fans will insist that the Korean company is much more diligent about ruggedness and durability when it comes to foldables, which is why it seems like the latest innovation in the space was actually the original Galaxy fold from 2019. The company has spent all this time improving the details and making sure that every detail of the foldable products is perfect.

The other camp will point out that Samsung’s Folds have looked the same for years, and that they only get minor improvements each year, and that most of those improvements are actually being made (very slowly) by Samsung to fix a problem of its own making (the narrow form factor when folding), and how Chinese smartphone makers like Huawei with this tri-fold foldable phone and Honor with the Magic V3 (and as thin as that may be) are the real innovators in this sector lately.

So, go for it! The people in the aforementioned Reddit thread have definitely talked about this topic a lot.
