MediaTek unveils its next flagship chipset, the Dimensity 9400, on October 9. Just a few days later, Qualcomm will take the wraps off its Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (which could be called Snapdragon 8 Elite instead). For the coming year, these will be the main chipsets for Android devices, and many smartphone manufacturers have recently had to make the very difficult choice of figuring out which ones to use for their upcoming devices.

That decision may or may not have been partially influenced by pricing. According to the prolific Chinese leaker Digital chat stationthe Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is significantly more expensive than its MediaTek counterpart.

Here is the price difference between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and the Dimensity 9400

DCS says the Dimensity 9400 will retail for around $155, while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will cost a whopping $190. These are preliminary prices. In fact, some smartphone manufacturers may be able to negotiate significantly better amounts based on the quantity they order.

The Snapdragon is more than 20% more expensive, and for many devices that could make a difference in price. The two upcoming SoCs are rumored to be both absolute beasts in terms of performanceeasily surpassing any other chipset ever created for Android devices.

Whether they succeed even surpass Apple’s A18 series however, remains to be seen. It’s also still unclear how they will perform against each other, but we’re sure there will be many more benchmark runs leaked in the coming days, so stay tuned.
