Google has released Android 15 recently entered the Android Open Source Project and is expected to start rolling out updates for its Pixel smartphones on October 15. With that in mind, you might have been wondering when Samsung’s One UI 7 based on Android 15 would arrive, especially considering the Korean company has been among the fastest to release previous major updates in recent years.

We know now, and it’s not good news if you’re impatient. According to the keynote at Samsung’s ongoing developer conference, One UI 7 won’t be released until the Galaxy S25 series will be launched (most likely in January). Updates for older devices should probably start immediately afterwards. However, a beta preview of One UI 7 will be released this year. Hear all the details for yourself in the embedded keynote video below. The One UI 7 talk starts around minute 22 and the release information is at 24:30.

That’s a much delayed time frame compared to what Samsung has gotten us used to in recent years, so you’ll need quite a bit of patience. On the other hand, the company promises that there will be a completely new design with One UI 7, with a design language that focuses on being simple, impactful and emotional, whatever that means in this context.

The only more solid detail is the fact that the home screen grid will be redesigned somehow. It could also become less customizable, if we read between the lines, as Good Lock was offered as an option for those who want to go all out with customizations.
