ChatGPT’s long-awaited search feature is now live. It’s called ChatGPT Search and it searches the Internet for you. What’s special is that it’s integrated into ChatGPT, and ChatGPT can choose to search for you for certain things you ask. You can also manually click/tap the search option after entering something in the text box.
OpenAI says it “combines the benefits of a natural language interface with the value of up-to-date sports scores, news, stock quotes and more.” The company is working with “news and data providers to add timely information and new visual designs for categories like weather, stocks, sports, news and maps.”
Chats with ChatGPT now include links to resources, like news articles and blog posts, that should have been there from day one, but better late than never. However, you must click the Resources button below the answer to then open a sidebar with all the references.
OpenAI says it worked extensively with the news industry ahead of launch and listened carefully to feedback from its global publishing partners. Feedback from the SearchGPT prototype was also incorporated into ChatGPT Search. Going forward, the company promises to improve the new service, “especially in areas such as shopping and travel.”
ChatGPT Search is now available at chatgpt.comas well as through the ChatGPT desktop and mobile apps, for all ChatGPT Plus and Team users, as well SearchGPT waiting list users. Enterprise and Edu users will get access “in the coming weeks,” while free users will get it “in the coming months.”
