Last weekthe Samsung Galaxy S24 FE cost £585 for an 8/128GB model and £640 for an 8/256GB model. It did come with a free Galaxy Watch FE, which was nice, but wouldn’t you rather just have a lower price?
If you want that, take another look at Amazon’s offer: prices for the 8/128GB and 8/256GB models have dropped to £550 and £600 respectively. No free watch this time, but there is an alternative offer for a bundle of S24 FE plus Galaxy Buds3 that is lower than the combined S24 FE + Buds3 price.
This week it’s the Samsung Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 that come with a free timepiece – it’s just a Samsung Galaxy Fit3 smartband, but that’s on top of the £100 discount for these phones, making it a nice deal if you’re aiming on a mid-range phone.
And this one isn’t for everyone, but you can also get a free Galaxy Fit3 if you buy the Galaxy XCover7. Do you need a rugged phone with a removable battery?
Let’s take a look at the Samsung Galaxy Fit3 itself, which now costs £40 (43% off RRP). It has a 1.6-inch OLED display, supports fall detection and emergency SOS (so it’s a suitable gift for old people), and promises to last up to 13 days on a charge. Note that it doesn’t have built-in GPS, so you’ll need to bring your phone if you want to track outdoor activities like running or cycling.
The Motorola Razr 50 Ultra flip foldable costs under £800. This buys you a 6.9-inch internal and 4-inch 165Hz external display, a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, a 4000mAh battery with 45W wired and 15W wireless charging and a 50 + 50 MP camera with a 2x portrait lens.
Foldable cameras are a cool form factor, but one that is limited in terms of cameras. For less money you can get the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra instead – it has a 50MP main sensor (1/1.3in), 64MP 3x telephoto (72mm) and a 50MP ultra-wide angle, plus a 50MP selfie. This Ultra also uses the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 instead of the “full-fat” 8 Gen 3 and has a 6.7” 144Hz OLED screen. The battery is larger and faster with a capacity of 4,500 mAh and a charging power of 125 W/50 W.
If the Ultra is too big for you, take a look at the Motorola Edge 50 Neo. It has a 6.4in screen and is about the same size as the Pixel 9. It doesn’t quite have the camera qualities of the Ultra, but it does have a 50MP (1/1.5in), 10MP 3x main camera tele (73mm) and 13 MP ultra-wide. Be warned, though: the camera was the biggest issue we had with this phone in our review. The 4,310 mAh battery is long lasting and charges quickly with 68W wired charging and less with 15W wireless charging. The Dimensity 7300 is a bit weak for this class, but the discount makes this limitation easier to accept.
But if big screens aren’t a problem, take a look at the Honor 200 Pro. The screen in question is a 6.78” 120Hz OLED with a dual camera cutout – a 50MP selfie and a 2MP depth sensor. The phone’s curiously shaped camera island houses a 50 MP main camera (1/1.3 inch), a 50 MP 2.5x telephoto and a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle lens. The Silicon Carbon battery has a capacity of 5,200 mAh and you get 100W wired and 66W wireless charging.
The Honor Magic V2 is a 2023 phone, although it has only just arrived in Europe early 2024. It’s showing its age with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, but it has solid cameras – 50MP main, 20MP 2.5x telephoto (62mm) and 50MP ultra-wide angle. And a large 5,000mAh battery with 66W wired charging only.
For reference, the sleek new Galaxy Z Fold6 Special Edition is thicker than the V2 (10.6mm vs. 9.9/10.1mm closed) while having a smaller battery (Samsung kept the 4,400mAh from the original Z Fold6 ). It is true that it brings a new 200 MP sensor in the main camera, but the telephoto is still a 10 MP 3x module and the ultra-wide a 12 MP module. And this is only for people who can even buy the Special Edition, which is only available in South Korea for now. Meanwhile, the Magic V2 is here and it can be yours for £1,000.
