vivo and its sub-brand iQOO seem to be very serious about rolling out Android 15 to as many devices as possible as quickly as possible. After the rollout to the vivo X Fold3 Pro from earlier today, now the iQOO 12 also gets its own flavor of Android 15 with FuntouchOS 15 on top – so this is the international iQOO 12 we’re talking about, not the Chinese model.

The update arrives over the air (although you may have to check for it manually) as a 2.5GB download, so make sure you download it over a fast enough network. Once installation is complete, use software version PD2307CF_EX_A_15.1.9.1.W20. The update comes with the October security patch level, even though it is already November.

The changelog is absolutely massive, so we’ve only shared about 30% of it in the screenshots above. Suffice to say, there are a lot of changes – nothing major per se, but a lot of welcome little tweaks and improvements.

You get a priority scheduling algorithm that intelligently allocates resources based on real-world requirements, improving smoothness, a fast dynamic effects engine for the same purpose, and new system dynamics effects with a new Origin animation that incorporates “principles from human factors research and the natural laws of the physical world in dynamic effect design”.

There are many new wallpapers, both static and immersive, you can now set local videos as live wallpapers, you can have large folders on your home screens, there are new clock widgets, Ultra Game mode comes with multiple quick setting options, screenshot capture is improved, the Smart Sidebar now has access to Google Lens for quick translations of on-screen content, Notes has more text editing tools and the ability to export in Word format, and Settings comes with better categorization and hierarchies.

You can drag a split screen to the center of the screen to switch to a small window, and drag a small window to the edge of an app to switch to a split screen, while the launch gestures for split screen mode and small windows drag are optimized. You can swipe up from the bottom to the top left or top right corner to quickly enter split screen or small window mode.

Now it’s time for AI. Live Transcribe is present, as is Circle to Search, and the Albums app gets cleaning suggestions and AI clearing to remove unwanted things or people in your photos.
