History was made today when President Donald Trump became the first US president to make a Bitcoin payment.

The former president popped into PubKey, a Bitcoin-themed bar in the heart of Greenwich Village, New York City, to buy some cheeseburgers (on National Cheeseburger Day) at the establishment, which was packed with Bitcoin enthusiasts to welcome him.

“I think it’s a great place,” Trump told Bitcoin Magazine about PubKey, before urging Bitcoin enthusiasts who frequent the bar to get out and vote in November.

“Go vote, because if you vote, we cannot lose. We want everyone who agrees with you — and there are many — (to vote),” he added.

“They treated you very badly at the SEC, and we’re going to treat you very fairly.”

As for the payment, Trump said it was easy to do and went “quickly and beautifully.”

After the transaction was completed, Trump introduced himself to everyone present, accompanied by one of the bar’s owners, Thomas Pacchia.

“This was one of the most important Bitcoin transactions of all time,” Pacchia said.

“President Trump came to PubKey to connect with the Bitcoin community, to show his support for the Bitcoin community,” he added.

“We are very happy that he was here.”
