Earlier this year, the Energy Information Administration tried to conduct a survey of Bitcoin mining energy consumption under the emergency licensing laws, bypassing the traditional process of setting up a survey, which required an open comment period from the public and industry players who participated in the survey.

This survey attempt was done under very questionable circumstances with very poor reasoning to justify its emergency nature. Riot Platforms and the Texas Blockchain Council filed to obtain a court order against the survey in Waco, Texas.

In the final agreement, EIA voluntarily agreed to cease collection under the emergency declaration and destroy all information it had received up to the court’s ruling.

a a new notice has been issued following the normal procedure of an open comment period.

Today from 12:00 to 13:30 (CET) the EIA will host a webinar to discuss the issues surrounding energy consumption in Bitcoin mining. Information will also be provided on the operations of mining sites in the United States.

People can register here to watch the webinar. There will be a form for you to submit questions during the registration process. Hopefully, they will be answered during the webinar.

I would like to ask you, as I have done in previous reports on the Agency’s actions in this area, that when you attend and ask questions, you should be respectful and serious in your participation.
