ford uses two of its best-known brand names, Bronco And Mustangto the electric bike segment. It unveiled a lineup of e-bikes, including a Mustang model designed for on-road use and a Bronco-inspired model designed to take riders off the beaten path.
Like most car manufacturers dealing with e-bikesFord didn’t start from scratch. It enlisted the help of a company called n+, which has worked with Mercedes-AMG and other brands before. Using standard components saves time and money, so the two models share the same 750-watt hub motor that makes 62.5 pound-feet of torque. Ford quotes a top speed of 28 mph and a range of up to 60 miles.
To make it clear, 28 mph is how fast the bike will take you. You can go faster, but you’ll need the help of your legs.
Whether you stay on the sidewalk or go off-road, you should expect to wait about 3.5 hours before the battery pack to load and you can count on four-piston hydraulics brakes to ride slower. There is also an LCD screen that looks a lot like a digital instrument panel. It shows information such as the speed of the bike, the charge status of the battery and the selected riding mode. It even has an odometer.
The similarities end there, and each bike is distinguished by specific styling. Visually, the Bronco seems more like a process motorcycles than the SUV it’s named after. It rides on 27.5-inch Pirelli Scorpion Enduro M hard-wall tires and has what Ford describes as a motorcycle-inspired seat. The Mustang model features a more traditional design and comes with Pirelli Angel GT semi-slick tires for road use.
Pricing for the Bronco e-bike starts at $4,500. It comes standard in Area 51, a colour sourced from Ford’s palette, but buyers can choose from 10 additional colors for an extra $390. The Mustang model costs $4,000 and comes standard in Carbonized Gray Metallic. Again, buyers can unlock 10 additional paint colors for an extra $390. Both bikes are on sale now, with deliveries starting later in 2024.
