According to the International Data Corporation (IDC), a total of 39.6 million tablets were shipped worldwide in the third quarter of 2024, representing a year-over-year growth of 20.4%.
Apple maintains the top spot in the segment with a significant lead over the competition, but only a modest 1.4% year-over-year growth. Still, 12.6 million units is nothing to scoff at. The second place for the number of units sold goes to Samsung, with a growth of 7.1 million or 18.3% year-on-year. Analysts believe that this is solely due to the commercial success of the Galaxy Tab A9 series.
IDC tablet sales Q3 2024 on an annual basis
Amazon and its tablet sales take third place with 4.6 million units shipped, but an absolutely astounding 111.3% year-over-year growth. These are mainly attributed to strong sales on Amazon Prime Day. Huawei also had a strong quarter with 3.3 million units and an increase of 44.1% year over year. And finally, we have Lenovo in fifth place with 3 million units sold and 14.7% year-over-year growth.
Sound off in the comments, because we’re wondering if you recently bought an Amazon tablet just because it was a great deal.
