Google is finally rolling out support for speedometer readings and speed limits in Maps on iOS. These also work via CarPlay.

The move comes a whopping five years after the same functionality was added to Android, mind-bogglingly enough. However, it’s finally here on iOS as well. Since this is a Google app, it may take a few weeks for the rollout to complete, so don’t worry if you don’t see it yet.

Google Maps Finally Adds Speedometer and Speed Limits on iOS and CarPlay

The speedometer uses km/h or mph, depending on your region. You can enable it in Settings > Navigation > Driving options. The speed limit feature changes the colors on the speedometer to encourage you to drive within the speed limit set for that particular stretch of road.

Google notes that the speedometer in Maps is “for informational purposes only,” so you should always rely on your vehicle’s speedometer to confirm your actual driving speed.
