If you look at phone names today, you would think that the Motorola Razr50 is a big step down from the Razr 50 Ultra. It has to be at least a Pro to even come close to the Ultra. But you’re wrong. We’ll explain more after this unboxing.

Motorola ships the Razr 50 in a scented retail box, which includes a vegan leather case with metal strap hooks, a matching vegan leather band, and a USB-C cable. You will need to provide your own charger.

The Razr 50 is a lot more similar to the Razr 50 Ultra than you might think. It’s powered by a less powerful but equally efficient 4nm Dimensity 7300X chipset, it has the same-sized 6.9-inch internal display, but it runs at a slower 120Hz (not 165Hz), while the cover screen is a 3.6-inch 90Hz unit, rather than the 4.0-inch 165Hz unit on the Ultra. You get the same main camera, but a 13MP ultra-wide angle with autofocus rather than the Ultra’s 50MP 2x zoom camera.

Finally, the maximum power for wired charging is only 30W (down 15W), but you do keep the 15W for wireless charging and the 4,200mAh is even 5% larger (200mAh).

You could argue that those compromises aren’t small, but the counterargument is that for this type of device, it’s more important to maintain screen-to-body ratios, which the Razr 50 largely does. It’s also clearly significantly cheaper than the Ultra.

But here’s where the conversion gets tricky. At the time of writing, the Razr 50 (also known as the Razr 2024 in the US) retails for $700 and €950 in Europe. While they’re vastly different, those prices are steep. But let’s not jump into buying advice just yet. Wait for our review first.
