Over the years, several Android OEMs have launched smartphones with variable aperture cameras, but we have yet to see that on an iPhone. A few months ago, The information reported that at least one of the iPhone 17 models will have a variable aperture camera next year, and now analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the iPhone 18 Pro will also have this camera feature.
That shouldn’t be a surprise, as the iPhone 17 series will have a variable aperture camera, and you’d expect the models that come later to have them too.

Kuo claimed that the Apple iPhone 18 Pro’s primary camera will have a variable aperture, and while he didn’t go into specifics, Kuo said that his “latest industry research indicates that Sunny Optical will be the primary shutter supplier (with Luxshare as a secondary ) and the second supplier of variable aperture lenses (after Largan Precision).”
Current iPhones, all sports cameras with fixed aperture and variable aperture, would allow users to control the amount of light entering the lens and adjust the depth of field.
