The HMD merger was revealed earlier this month, and now it’s available to buy from HMD itself in Europe. You’ll have to pay €269.99 to get it with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, or €299.99 with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
The phone’s main selling point is its modular design. There are so-called Fusion versions, which are essentially swappable covers that can add features like wireless charging, more rugged protection, a ring light and the like.
HMD is certainly not the first company to try its hand at the modular (or rather, in this case, more modular-ish) game. None of the others have succeeded, which doesn’t bode well for HMD. But perhaps it’s the exception to the rule, we’ll have to wait and see.
First-party Fusion outfits will be available between October and December, so for now you’ll just need to buy the phone itself. HMD’s Fusion Development Toolkit will let you 3D print your own designs if you want.
All that aside, the Fusion packs a 6.56-inch IPS LCD display with HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate (which makes us think HMD should have invested in a 120Hz OLED instead of the modularity hassle), a 108MP main camera, a 50MP selfie camera, and a 5,000mAh battery with support for 33W wired charging. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset.
