YouTube is getting some new improvements, apparently based on user feedback. Firstly, the finely adjustable playback speed allows you to change this in 0.05 increments (as opposed to 0.25 now). The maximum is still 2x.

YouTube is also expanding its sleep timer to all users, which works exactly as you’d expect. You can set the timer to stop playback after 10, 15, 20, 30, or 45 minutes, within an hour, or when the current video ends. This has happened before available for Premium users.

Landscape mode browsing will be improved on iOS later this year, and the in-app mini-player can now be resized or moved. You can create collaborative playlists and design your own custom thumbnails for them – using your own photos or using generative AI. Later this year you will also be able to vote for videos in playlists.

Badges are coming to the YouTube and YouTube Music apps on mobile devices, starting with just a few: for example, one of the first paid members of a channel or the person who correctly completes quizzes.

Finally, YouTube gets a more “cinematic feel” on your TV, whatever that means. Expect new pops of pink and “other light accents that add dynamism to the YouTube you know and love,” the service says. When you visit a channel page on your TV, a video automatically plays to give you a taste of the creator’s content.
